Who Are Jason and Lucia? GTA 6's Dual Protagonists Explained

Every GTA reinvents what a protagonist is. GTA 5 gave us three. GTA 6 does something the series has never done: two leads who aren't rivals or strangers — they're together, in every sense. Rockstar's official material leans hard into a modern Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic, and the character pages it published reveal more about the story than any trailer so far.

Lucia Caminos

Lucia grew up in Liberty City — the GTA universe's New York — where, per Rockstar's official description, her father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk. Life kept swinging at her: she ended up in Leonida Penitentiary for protecting her family, the specifics of which Rockstar hasn't revealed. The story appears to open around her release — official material describes her getting out through sheer luck and wanting to play it smart from here on.

That prison opening matters for gameplay speculation: both trailers frame Lucia as the emotional engine of the story — the planner, the one with everything to lose.

Jason Duval

Jason, per Rockstar, "wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder." He grew up around grifters and crooks, did an Army stint to escape his troubled teens, and washed up in the Leonida Keys doing what he knows best — working for local drug runners. He lives rent-free in a property owned by veteran smuggler Brian Heder, paying his way by helping with shakedowns.

The confirmed supporting cast

Rockstar's official site introduced a wider cast — three names worth knowing:

• Cal Hampton — Jason's friend, a conspiracy-minded homebody who snoops on Coast Guard radio with a few beers. Rockstar calls him "the low tide of America."
• Boobie Ike — a Vice City street legend who turned his past into a legitimate empire: real estate, a strip club, a recording studio. All smiles until it's time to talk business.
• Brian Heder — a drug runner from the golden age of Keys smuggling, still moving product through his boat yard with his third wife Lori. Jason's landlord and likely first employer in the story.

Why this duo changes the formula

Every previous 3D-era GTA put you inside one perspective on a criminal world (or three parallel ones in GTA 5). A couple changes the stakes entirely: betrayal isn't a plot twist between factions, it's a question inside the player's own household. Rockstar's marketing keeps returning to one theme — trust — and building the entire game around a relationship is the most ambitious narrative swing the series has taken.
