What this means

No surprises here. Every mainline GTA since GTA 3 has been rated M. The rating is advice for parents, not a law, but most US retailers won't sell M-rated games to under-17s without an adult. In Europe, PEGI ratings for Rockstar's GTA games have been 18 in the past. We'll confirm GTA 6's PEGI rating once it's officially published.

"In-Game Purchases" — what we know: the ESRB label applies to the product as a whole. Rockstar hasn't announced an online mode for launch, and press coverage of the Extended Look reported no microtransactions in the single-player story. We'll treat the details as unconfirmed until Rockstar spells them out.

For parents

GTA 6 is an adult crime game: graphic violence, sex scenes and drug use are part of it. If you're deciding whether it's right for your household, the ESRB's own summary on esrb.org has the most detail.
